Troels Rasmussen Joins LNDS

Strengthening Europe’s Genomic Ambition with Troels Rasmussen

Luxembourg National Data Service (LNDS) is pleased to share that we have entered into a contract with Troels Rasmussen as an External Senior Consultant, starting 1 May, supporting the establishment of the Genome European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (Genome EDIC) and assisting Luxembourg through the next phase of its preparation and transition.

The Genome EDIC will serve as the legal and operational implementation of the 1+ Million Genomes (1+MG) initiative and will be hosted by Luxembourg. This role of Luxembourg is a great honour and will help put the country on the map for data services and as an instigator of European data spaces.

With his experience in genomic data availability and large‑scale infrastructure initiatives, Troels Rasmussen brings valuable expertise to support these efforts. He is currently involved in the Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) project and the Beyond 1 Million Genomes Plus (B1MGplus) project, working on long‑term sustainability, business planning, and risk‑management practices. He also serves as Vice‑Chair of the Government Group in Pillar I of GDI.

Troels has been involved in the establishment of life‑science and compute infrastructures at national, Nordic, and European level for many years, with particular expertise in bridging research needs with access to sensitive data sources. In his advisory role, he will support LNDS and its partners on operational, governance, and infrastructure‑related topics relevant to the Genome EDIC preparation phase.

Statement from Troels Rasmussen

Troels Rasmussen

I am very honoured and excited by this opportunity to support this mission, which has been a huge part of my working life for the past years. My ambition in this role is to help bring as many countries on board as smoothly as possible and to contribute to the preparatory work required for implementing a federated infrastructure together with health‑data holders and infrastructure providers across Europe. I will focus particularly on linking healthcare and research objectives, supporting the definition of key operational requirements, and contributing to the guiding principles underpinning the Genome EDIC strategy, in close collaboration with LNDS and the wider initiative.
